Jan-Feb. Tourist arrivals surpass 7 million

BANGKOK, 22 March 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports the tourist arrivals in the first two months of this year jumped to over seven million people. 

In a press conference on the tourist arrival statistics between January and February, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Panupong Sawetarun disclosed there had been more than 7.1 million foreign visitors during the past two months. February alone saw more than 3.5 million foreign tourist arrivals. 

More than 1.2 million of the visitors last month were Chinese people opting to spend their Chinese New Year holiday touring the country, representing a new high over the past several years. Other main groups of visitors were from Malaysia, Russia, Korea, Japan, Laos, France, India, Germany and the USA. 

The tourism revenue in February surged 23.78 percent to over 190 billion baht. The figure during the past two months soared 17.47 percent to 380 billion baht. Secondary tourist destinations in 55 provinces across the country are also trending upwards, with the number of visitors particularly high in Buriram, Nakhon Nayok, and Loei.

Has money and number of tourist ever go down?

Wow! In case continue like that you will get more than 42 millions of tourists...must be a record...what do you do with all the money???

Maybe 7 million arrive but (given the amount tourists killed on Thailand's roads) how many go back in body bags?

Again, skewed numbers. Don't they count EVERY person who goes through swampy as an "arrival?"

I can answer that - Yes! if they have money, forward planning hasn't been introduced to this country yet!

Yup !....they don't care for the western farangs any more as the Indians, Chinese and Koreans are flocking in with good cash to spend....times change !

Whoever  comes  to Thailand comes  to Thailand. Should there be  some  greater expectation   for  "Farang" ?

Foriegn  cash  is welcome regardless  of  currency. Who  is it  that can define any long term damage done  in the  acceptance?

Feeling  disenfranchised   somehow?

Not really I would say as I guess if one minds one's own business, is patient and is nice to people, things can work out rather smoothly here, no matter who or from where you are...but of course that's not a reason to get ripped off or not to bargain,  obviously.

To meny tourists kill the environment Thailand will get higher level of pollution and damage all the national parks beach etc and people will stop coming because of this but I know Thailand don't care everything is only about how meny tourists they can get nothing going to be left for the next generation

Compared to gun murder in the USA? Or people killed by the UK health system? ...Have you ever lived in Thailand?
