Anna Kelly the early favourite

With Karoline Leavitt preparing to leave her post as White House press secretary to spend more time with her young family, speculation is already building over who will inherit one of the most politically visible jobs in Washington. The strongest early contender appears to be Anna Kelly, Leavitt's 29-year-old principal deputy, who already has White House experience and has become a regular defender of the administration on television.

The familiar names

Other names being floated include Scott Jennings, the conservative CNN commentator and former Bush and McConnell adviser; Katie Miller, a former Pence and Homeland Security communications official and wife of senior Trump aide Stephen Miller; former Trump lawyer Alina Habba; former DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin; longtime Trump adviser Jason Miller; and former Trump White House aide Roma Daravi.

The betting has already started

Kelly currently leads the field on prediction markets, with Jennings also among the favourites. Habba is another prominent name, while the experience of Miller and McLaughlin could make them serious alternatives if Trump wants someone with a proven communications background.

Big shoes to fill

Whoever gets the job will inherit a formidable role. Leavitt became one of the administration's most aggressive and recognisable defenders, regularly taking on hostile questions and pushing Trump's message directly to the press. The next person behind that podium will need a thick skin and probably an even thicker folder of talking points.

Anyway, it's going to be a few more months because they sent them back to China to get the ICE electric gloves upgrade so it can shock reporters for asking dumb questions. 😂
