Despite looking pokey and run down, Floraville on the Makassan link looks kinda sweet. Expansive balconies and tons of space. But it also looks like it's in a downward spiral as well. Maintenance, lobby. Imagine the halls are tired and grubby. It overlooks a Muslim graveyard as well.

 

Will they ever fix the airport link? Is it doomed to remain overcrowded and in a perpetual state of brokeness?

 

Bad maintenance is always a downhill slope here.
Thais generally are not keen on doing proper maintenance, or on spending money on repairs/replacements, and the worse a place gets the more likely it is that those with money and a sense of what proper maintenance means will sell up and move out, to be replaced by more cheap owners, who will want to reduce expenditure on maintenance even more. And you end up with a slum full of tenants.
