Wire cleanup eyed for Sukhumvit Road

PATTAYA:--With no plans on the horizon to bury power and communications wires on Sukhumvit Road, Pattaya wants the current mess cleaned up.

City Councilman Adm. Srivisut Rodarun chaired a March 21 meeting with telephone, internet and cable television providers, telling them to prepare to work together to tidy up unseemly tangles of wires along Sukhumvit between Soi Chaiyapornwitee to the Baan Amphur intersection.

He said the lines need to be tidied up and suggested they be placed in plastic pipes for proper organization.

No budget or schedule for the work has been issued, so the meeting served mainly as a shot across the bow of the companies which continually string new cables without removing or tidying up the existing ones.

The Provincial Electricity Authority plans to bury nearly four dozen kilometers of wires across the city, but its blueprint doesn’t include that section of Sukhumvit Road.

I hope the City Council doesn't allocate any of its own budget to resolve this. Costs should be borne by the owners of the various wires. Some form of financial penalty needs to be available to "encourage" utility companies to get the work done in a timely manner.

Ultimately, the costs will be borne by the customers  -  you and me.

I wonder if they tidied the wires around  Pattaya City Town Hall yet ?
