The Rajvithi hospital clarified today (March 30) that the elderly scavenger who was kicked to unconsciousness by a young man two weeks ago has died of blood infection and not by injuries inflicted by his assailant.

Dr Manas Pothaporn, the director of Rajvithi hospital said that blood infection was commonly found among aging people and the victim, 82-year old Mr Charoon Meephan, had health problem and made regular visits to hospital for treatment.

He added that brain X-ray didn’t show any sign of bleeding in the brain.

piece of sh-it, I do like the way his flying  kick ends him up on the floor. I guess this will be another "I should respect the elderly" thread.

So, he is just referred to as a 'scavenger' now. How degrading and dehumanising. Elderly gentleman, Senior citizen, Old man, would all be more polite, appropriate, and respectful.

Fair point,

If he were in Europe something like 'recycling assistant'

Apparently he blames the old guy for hitting him, but if you look and pause the video it looks like he is riding one handed, maybe using a phone?

his mummy say's it was SELF DEFENSE.

Oh that's alright then... No need to feel any human reactions to someone dying after you give them a good kicking. Yeah same feeling as other comments about some old trying to stay independant being called a "scavenger".. This is Thai 4.0 I presume.. This is such a clear representation of where Thailand and its " people" are going in the future. Think the world needs to dust off its plans to develop the Neutron bomb. We might need it sometime. There are countries in the world that really don't deserve an existence with normal people in normal countries of this world. The majority of Thailand needs to go into therapy... Except.. I really believe its already too late.

the man developed complications of being admitted for his initial assault related injuries.  elderly people that are immobilized in bed often get infections that can be fatal.

not uncommon to get pneumonia after trauma that just broke ribs

If I understood the news correct in TV, so the infection occured because he was not able to move anymore after the attacks.

So this would mean he died because of the attack.

I hear something, that the attacker want to pay 3'000 baht per month for about 27 months.. but not sure if this is correct or not...

A blood infection brought  on by lying in bed for 2 weeks after having suffered from the

beating by the 21 year old jerk.  Do not forget that this old guy was active until he was

injured. Charge the jerk with murder..

Geezer..

scavenger? the Man has a Name! how did he get the blood infection?  did he have it BEFORE he was attacked by the scum bag? or did he get it AFTER he was admitted to the Hospital?

I recently went to a hospital for an injection noticed the nurse was re-using the latex gloves

It was just bad luck, that he died after being kicked, and Norwegians freeze to death in Thailand! Amazing Thailand!

He didn't "die after being kicked", he was released from hospital after treatment for the attack and taken home.  He was taken to the hospital 2 weeks later for treatment for a suspected blood infection form which he died later.

What difference would it have made?

As  a physician, I can attest to the fact that the old guy contracted the infection at the hospital.

Unless you are a physician at the hospital in question, treating this patient you cannot attest to that "fact"!

why could the bacteria have not entered his body via a wound from the street when he fell off the cart?
