After doing my latest tax return (PND91) I found out the tax rates have changed and I overpaid on tax last year by approximately 10k baht and have since claimed this back and received the cheque without issue. The year before I had the same salary and paid the same tax and it worked out correctly, now there is a bigger allowance and more deductibles.

I am wondering if anyone knows if this could affect applying for residency when eligible or citizenship when eligible ie the amount of tax paid will be quite low, will claiming overpaid tax be an issue?

For example my extension of stay based on child, I show a salary of 50k paying just under 2,500 a month in tax for the past few years.

This time going for the same extension based on 50k salary the amount of tax paid will only be about 1,600 a month.

Will immigration have an issue with this? And moving forwards will residency/citizenship expect more tax to have been paid?

Your current tax should be about 1462.5 Baht a month.

If you are single, (just assuming that because of the nature of your extension), then the minimum salary for PR is 80K a month.

Thanks, 80k a month for 3 years or for the last year before applying?

For permanent residency the requirement is 50k baht of income if you have a Thai child.

Thanks ubonjoe, so the amount of tax paid is irrelevant as long as the salary requirement is met?

The amount of tax due on the income is irrelevant, but the tax must be paid.
