BANGKOK, 9th May 2018 (NNT) – All regions in Thailand are expected to experience increased rainfall from now until the weekend while officials in many provinces are still cleaning up the damage left behind by recent storms.

The Meteorological Department has issued another warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain from May 9-13 as a high-pressure trough from China extends across the upper part of Thailand while southeasterly winds continue to produce humidity over the South China Sea and in the Gulf of Thailand. The precipitation is expected to taper off on May 14-15. However, the northern region is likely to remain wet even on the 14th due to the influence of westerly winds.

As a consequence of recent storms, extensive damage has been reported in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, with three villages in Sao Thong subdistrict of Ron Phibun district battered by a tornado. Local officials have been dispatched to the areas to help residents repair their homes and remove fallen trees and electricity poles.

In Tha Bo district of Nong Khai province, gusty winds caused damage to 15 homes, most of which had their roofs blown off, while many large trees were felled. Soldiers and officials from many agencies were deployed to clear away the debris.

In Bueng Kan, local administrators in So and Kham Kaeo subdistricts of So Phisai district joined local soldiers and community leaders to assess damage following heavy rains. Many large trees and electricity poles were found to have been knocked down by strong winds, damaging over 30 residences.

Last evening in Chiangmai there was the loudest thunderclap I have ever heard, must have been directly overhead. Set my heart racing and almost had to scrape the wife and 2 dogs off the ceiling.

But, no rain.

Let the rain begin . It is too hot !

I do love a nice thunderstorm although i do feel sorry for the market traders who have to pack up quickly when a storm starts

A better way to put it would be that thunderstorms are quite likely in areas across Thailand.

Depending on how you look at it you may get lucky and not get one or you may get lucky and get one.

It's been, sometimes, chucking it down at my place and I call a mate 7 or 8 kilometres away who tells me he's in the swimming pool under blue skies.

We have been having a lot of rain in the last month around Korat. Out on the bicycle today and one of the 40 foot across canals that a month ago had around two feet of water, today water flowing over the lock gates which are 20 feet high.....very impressive. As for thunder, I have never heard thunder like the stuff I used to hear in Phuket, and sometimes the peal would last for five minutes...could be very scary in the middle of the night when trying to sleep and it sounded like a bomb exploding.

The canal at my university along the Vibhavadi road is as empty as I never see before. That could mean 1.) that there is some construction nearby and blocked the water or 2.) the authorities really doing some preventive measures anticipating heavy rainfall.
