Hi guys,

My Non O visa is up in another week. Got my last one from Savannakhet which at the time only issued me with a single entry one good for three months as I was unaware that I had to take the original of my marriage certificate. Just had a copy so they were not prepared to issue the required multiple entry one. Anyway one lives and learns. This time I will be taking my original as well but my question is, how likely are they to issue me with a visa this time around knowing that this will be my second consecutive one from there? I have also obtained a previous multiple entry from there a couple of years ago and have another one also in the same passport from the UK from three years ago. The dude at the consulate on my last visit said I could extend it at immigration which I have not done. I mean do Savannakhet issue back to back Non O visas? Plus is anyone aware of any other new rules or requirements they have come up with in the last three months? Thanks in advance and anyone who replies I'll raise a Beerlao to you when I'm over the border.

I’ve done this for the past few years with no issue. One year I was required to have a copy of my Laos visa which could be done nearby but the following year I didn’t need it. Maybe others can chime in on any potential new requirements but I think you’ll have no problem getting a new visa.

I expect a pic of a raised Beer Lao in this thread at a later date. :)

Cheers for that. I'm a man of my word so the pic shall be forthcoming in another week or so.

People have been getting back to back multiple entry non-o visas at Savannakhet since they started issuing them.

There have been no changes to the requirements to get one for some time now.

The dude at the consulate on my last visit said I could extend it at immigration which I have not done.

you can extend it at immigration if you go with your mrs for 60 days before the visa expires for 1,900 baht to visit the wife, then go to savannaket after if you preferred.

remember you can do that after any 90 day entry making the visa last a lot longer.

no problems to do as many back to back multi entries and all you'll need is the 'original' of marriage cert as you have learnt and copy of her thai ID or passport signed by her.

**i think the consulate guy was saying you could do the year extension if meeting the requirements but this doesn't have to be done, you can just keep doing non imm visas if you prefer

Thanks guys, these replies have put my mind at rest and a really helpful platform here. Plus looking forward to Savannakhet, it seems to get a tad livelier every time I go.

You cannot make the visa last longer by extending by 60 days each time. The visa is valid for 1 year regardless. You can get 17 months stay if, you leave and come back for a final entry on the "enter before" date. Then, when that 90 days has expired, go to immigration and get another 60 days for visiting wife.

Did i say he could make it last longer by extending it each time? i just informed him that he could do that on every 90 day entry and reminded him that's any (ie including the last one) making the visa last a lot longer

i think the OP understood exactly what i meant. in effect he would be making the visa last longer by extending it as you just said yourself he can get 17 month of stay from that same visa.

Ok. So I guess it is your terminology. You cannot make a visa last longer. You can stay longer if you play it right but a Non O Multi entry will only ever be valid for a year.

Upon reflection chaps, this is what I'm taking:

Copy plus original of marriage certificate.

Copy of tabienban.

Copies of kids' birth certificates with Thai spouse.

Copy of missus's ID card.

Passport.

Myself.

Anything else needed?

Tambien ban copies and ID card must be signed by your wife.

No need for the birth certificate copies. Proof of your marriage is enough/

If you are looking forward to going to Sav then I dread to think where you 'live' in Thailand. The place is completely dead.

The first time I went a couple of years ago a tuk tuk driver took me to a large disco hall. The second time three months ago I found a huge beer garden, jam packed with over two hundred locals. Live band. All you have to do is open your mouth and ask a tuk tuk driver or the reception at your hotel. If you wander the streets aimlessly you won't find anything.

I'll hijack this thread instead of starting another one.

Am I right in thinking photocopies are OK? (Asides from needing an original wedding certificate, which I have).

Thanks

Yes

But be sure your wife signs the house book and ID card copies.
