FM to attend Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in US

 

 

BANGKOK, 19 July 2018 (NNT) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs is to travel to Washington DC of the United States of America to attend the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Poramudwinai is scheduled to travel to the US capital of Washington DC this July 23-28 to be a part of the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom, where he will exchange views with other officials and promote Thailand’s progress in providing religious freedom.

 

It is intended that Thailand will be able to showcase its advancements in human rights and the importance it has given to international human rights agreements, especially those pertaining to religious freedom. 

The US Secretary of State is hosting the meeting to mark the 20th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA) and 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The ministerial summit is to support a unified approach to religious freedom and to gauge the stances of attending nations.

and BTW Buddhism is NOT a religion 

If a restriction of rights of Thai monks doing all kinds of fishy business is the outcome of his, visit I'd applaud him.

The Head of State is required to be a Buddhist, government ceremonies revolve around Buddhism and Muslim culture and traditions are suppressed in the South.

Thailand's junta leaders don't seem to understand that they will not be taken seriously on the world stage until an election is held and their leadership of a free people is either legitimized or ended. It seems they are used to being able to fast talk others into going along with what ever truth (or non-truth) they are offering but when it comes time to deal with others outside their sphere of influence the pitchfork they are using to pile it on gets a little dull.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. On behalf of the ultra-cynical posters here, they probably will. All they need do is brazen it out, make promises they have no intention of keeping and soothe the foreign capitalists into investing. They have made a good job of it so far.

Jailed dissidents? Arbitrary use of power? Retroactive laws? Meh.

 

It's all about money. The dignity of the human being be damned. Any change in Thailand will have to come from within...
