Commuters should avoid parking along a new “shortcut” route in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao area during rush hour unless they want their car towed away by police.

With severe traffic congestion plaguing the area due to the ongoing construction of the Yellow Line (Lat Phrao-Samrong) elevated railway, police are vowing to bring in the tow trucks.

The front area of Ratchadapisek Criminal Court will be made a U-turn for vehicles to use as a “shortcut” route – covering Soi Ratchadapisek 30, 32 and 36 to reach Soi Chokchai 4, then Lat Phrao-Wang Hin Road, Prasert Manoonkij Road, Pradit Manoontham Road, and Lat Pla Kao Road.

It is prohibited for vehicles to park along this route during morning and evening rush hours and violators will see their cars towed, said Pol Maj-General Jirapat Phumjit, deputy commissioner in charge of traffic at the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

He spoke to reporters after a meeting on Tuesday between police and related agencies over the matter.

Among various measures being taken to ease the congestion, 21 bus stops along the outbound Lat Phrao Road have been relocated to avoid the construction project’s pillar-setting spots to ensure space for traffic flows, he added.

Pol Lt-General Kraiboon Suadsong, commissioner of the Police Strategy Office, said he would first present the Lat Phrao traffic congestion-solving plan to the government before outlining a detailed explanation to the general public via the “Thailand Moves Forward” televised programme.

However, vehicles showing the correct parking permits will be exempt from towing. As a guide the permits look like these..........

The catch phrase here is "Vowing to". and it should be "starting now".
