The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) revealed details of its order to seize 43 assets worth Bt108.68 million from three former senior officials at the Social Development and Human Security Ministry and their alleged accomplices as part of an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds at centres for the destitute.

The impounded assets include five luxury cars worth Bt25 million, five condominium units worth Bt23.5 million and two bank accounts with deposits totalling more than Bt20 million. The two bank accounts were owned by Wassana Tapaopong, 49, a former ministry official, who was also the girlfriend of late ex-permanent secretary for Social Development and Human Security Puttipat Lertchaowasit.

The assets worth Bt108.68 million were seized in two events earlier this year. First, 41 assets worth Bt88.542 million were seized from Puttipat, his former deputy Narong Kongkham, the former inspector-general Theerapong Srisukhon, Wassana and eight alleged accomplices; and later the two bank accounts under Wassana’s name.

The 60-year-old Puttipat was found dead on June 29, lying next to Wassana in their house in Pathum Thani. They had apparently tried to kill themselves by drinking poison, as they had reportedly been under pressure in relation to the multi-million-baht corruption scandal. Wassana survived the double suicide attempt.

Seems fair enough to me.

Stole money from the most needy. Caught out, committed suicide. No sympathy.

I only wish that they had some kind of resurrection technique, so that the people he stole from could have a go at him too.

I absolutely agree with you and that principle should like wise be applied to the government, its officials and those that prop it up

These assets were already ear marked for the pockets of the tops in governments with maybe one fifth of the assets worth announced that one fifth will trickle down to the others in the chain of lower officials.

We maybe see even more of governments actions in the future continuing up to the elections  as more of the government and military tops are getting smarter about excluding the number of people about their corruptions of the countries contracts and the distribution of money s involved. Thus, If they have no secrets then they can be tried more easily.while pocking their assets.

So your plan is to fill the jails with policemen and lawyers? A good start.

Yes, the only difference regarding policing we would see is a lack of bribes for things like traffic stops. Probably some alleged 'influential group' would be in the wings waiting to jump in though.

This tough treatment should apply to all, ALL  government officials whether elected or position acquired by force.

“Serve the people” for the pay offered but don’t steal from the common people to augment your income.

If you don’t like the pay, don’t take the job.

Don’t be a pig at the trough.

They should adopt China's punishment, shoot the ba****ds.

There wouldn't  be many senior ranking Thais left if you did.

Working for the govt sure comes with great benefits.

What about watches and rings?

Maybe that one has been conveniently  brushed under the carpet in the hope that it will be forgotten.

Seizing the ex-minister's girlfriend? What is she going to do? work off the fine?
