Around 30 people on Friday filed complaints with police that they were deceived into transferring over Bt40 million to a woman who promised to sell them bargain gold ornaments.

The group, led by Atipong Nakrod, 38, filed the complaints with the Technology Crime Suppression Division, naming a Facebook user with the account name of Chalinee Witthaya as the suspect.

Atipong alleged that Chalinee offered on Facebook to sell gold ornaments at about Bt2,000 to Bt3,000 cheaper than the market rate for 15 grams of gold.

He said they transferred their money and got their gold ornaments in the post as promised in deals until August 27.

Atipong and other buyers said they made bigger orders after August 27 but after they transferred the money, Chalinee closed her Facebook page and disappeared.

He said he lost almost Bt4 million and about 30 others were also deceived with one losing Bt10 million.

The victims found the suspect's house in Lopburi but she was not there. Her husband, a retired flight sergeant, claimed to know nothing about the deal, the victims said.

I agree as they were motivated by sheer greed.  They deserved to lose it.  Anyone with half a brain,  ok a quarter  to cover people in Thailand, should know that there is nothing for free in this world and if it is too good to be true,   then it is not true.

Yeah, no sympathy. Pure greed. I have some sympathy for those lonely old guys and girls who are ripped off by the boiler boys. Mug an old guy on the street and you're anathema, do it on the net and you can almost be a pillar of society, in Pattaya at least.

That's the oldest trick in the book, it always sucks in the greedy people?

So they seriously thought that someone was basically just giving them free money?

Let's speak frankly: Anyone who buys gold through a FACEBOOK (!!!) page deserves to lose every penny they've squandered, the utter twits that they are.

The question is how did they manage get the money in the first place with that brain capacity. Let me guess ... government officials?

Once again, these 30 people let greed get in the way of common sense. No sympathy from me and you have to learn that with any deal/investment etc. there is always risk...especially on such questionable mediums as Farcebook.

Victims, aka dumb greedy people.

All that glitters isn't gold, it seems it's all too easy

to scam people here.

Cleverly fished.
First served the small order and then ripped off with the big order.
Too greedy and too stupid.

My friend, a Nigerian prince, has asked for their email addresses and banking info so that he might help right these wrongs with a deposit from his large inheritance.

Even some governments calls this place the land of scams.
