The deputy commissioner of the Bangkok metropolitan police announced the arrest of a Chinese man and a Thai who abducted a Chinese businessman for ransom and held him in Pattaya.

A third Thai man is on the run.

Arrested were Liew Jonghai from China and Somchai Manicho.

With the other man they deliberately caused a car accident with the victim outside a restaurant in the Meng Jai area of northern Bangkok.

As Pherng, the businessman, got out to discuss the damage to his vehicle he was abducted at knife-point and driven to Pattaya.

There he was forced to sign a document transferring 140,000 Yuan or about 700,000 baht to the gang. He was then asked to get a further 200,000 baht from friends.

Deputy commissioner Pol Maj Gen Sompong Chingduang assured tourists and foreign businessman caught up in such crime that reports should always be made and they would always be fully investigated.

The hunt for the third man continues.

Why would anyone pay a ransom of even 50bt for a Chinaman? There are plenty more where he came from.

he seems to have paid the original 700k ransom for himself...

I am not aware of a document anyone could be forced to sign at knife point to transfer their wealth that the police and the banks couldn't reverse  or freeze the next day.....

What a load of tosh!  Crimes will only be investigated if it benefits the investigating officers.

Don't know about this case but can be easy money if the victim is involved in shady enterprises.

Yeah. any transfer these days can leave quite an electronic trail.  But if the victim doesn't want much publicity, well... mums the word
