Sam Mitr boasts of chance to beat Pheu Thai, claims 3 more ex-MPs to defect

 

 

Sam Mitr (Three Allies) group, seen as the military junta’s political arm, has claimed it has a good chance to win over the former ruling Phue Thai Party in the coming election.

 

It also claimed that three key former Pheu Thai MPs for Chiang Mai will next week defect to the group.

 

Phirom Pholwiset, a coordinator of the group, said the group was confident it would win more than 7 million votes in the Northeast and the North, Pheu Thai’s long-time political strongholds.

I thought they were not a political party? So which vote will they be participating in? I believe the NCPO said they could carry out their work as they were not registered as a political party.

Don't worry they may well be getting round that one by changing their name to perhaps "Friends of the Friends of the M16 Party"

If major Pheua Thai politicians jump ship and side with the junta - well, they are beneath contempt. And ordinary Thais who vote for the junta - what can one say? They deserve all they will get.

Their cards will certainly be marked if they do.

So let me get that straight - in Thailand the MPs who defect and switch parties bring their voters with them?

Or are they admitting that the ones who defect are so good in vote buying that they can almost guarantee they will win ?

If an MP who was elected in another country defects and switches sides out of pure greed he will very likely loose the support of those who voted for him during the next elections.

Somsak and Suriya have a history of forming small parties and supporting the military and strong leader like Thaksin. They drifted between parties like PPP and BJT. They are seen as politicians that only seek personal and family benefits. They overhyped themselves and the junta is just desperate thinking they will guarantee votes. Voters are familiar with their greed and dishonesty. They will not made much headwind in the election. Prayut stalling decision to announce his political future is a hint that he don't see this group doing well in the election. He was supposed to made himself available as party nomination for PM.

It's all moot.

By the time February roles around they'll only be one official, and forced upon, political party in which one can cast their vote.
