Steve McQueen interview: 'Men are a little bit tone deaf to certain aspects of feminism'

McQueen: ‘The response has been fantastic, but let’s focus on what it’s meant to be about!’ ( Rex )

Steve McQueen is troubled by the critical reaction to his latest film, Widows.

Not because it’s been negative – in fact, as with most of his movies, it’s been incredibly well received – but because so few male critics have grasped what the film’s true intentions are.

“They miss the biggest point,” says the 49-year-old. He lets out a sigh.

“That’s been the most interesting thing so far as the response to the picture is concerned, that men are a little bit tone deaf to certain aspects of feminism. I think that has been very, very illuminating to me.”

The Independent interview, by a woman journalist, belongs in Pseuds' Corner. And if you know what that is, you probably thought Steve McQueen was a white guy.

I don't know what "Pseuds Corner" is, and I thought it was an interview from years back with Terrence Steven McQueen and I did wonder why an interview with him was appearing her on this forum.

I have no idea who the Steve McQeen in this story is.

Non story from someone most of us have never heard from, that thinks what he has to say is important.

News flash, Steve, most people don't go to the movies any more and when they do, they want to be entertained, not brow beaten by someone's political persuasion.

As for "men are a little bit tone deaf to certain aspects of feminism, most real men probably don't even give feminism as it is these days a passing thought. I can't comment as to what "metrosexual" men think, as I don't know any.

Off :offtopic:topic.

I knew a metrosexual man that worked in the same call center I did (no, not in South East Asia).  He married a woman that worked there too.

Two months later, he stabbed her with a knife, three times, during an argument at breakfast, just before they were supposed to come to work.

She lived.  He went to prison.  I visited him in prison once.  He lost his metrosexual look in prison, for some reason!
