Visa Run To Burma From Ranong

Here is an update for visa runs to Burma via Ranong

We went today, self organised. Here some experiences:

We booked a mini bus in Sura Thani to Ranong- many agents around the bus station sell tickets. The trip is 3.5 hours and cost us 250 Baht per person one way.

In Ranong we stayed in the Tanatwan Palace for 450 Baht/airco. The hotel is OK, not great on the food side (they buy meals in and warm them up) but there is a pool. They do not organise visa runs any more.

We took today a shared taxi to the Thai immigration (11 baht pp regardless the distance), many go from the market. Thai immigration is about 800 m from the harbour on the right side opposit the Kasikorn Bank. We stamped out, it took about 20 minutes.

We were there at about 13 o'clock, the Immigration office closes at 16.30. Walked to the pier where many people point you in the right direction. Negotiated a boat for 200 Baht per person two way with one hour wait in Burma (you can return right away if you want).

The guys in the boat helped with another Thai stamp on the way out and stamping in in Burma (20 minutes wait) . The visa fee is now 10 $, visa is valid for a two weeks stay. As we wanted to return the same day (next time longer!) we got all stamps, so did not have to stamp out again but had time to walk the market for an hour.

Back in the Thai immigration office at about 15.30. Easy peasy.......

I took my Thai lady who has a passport too. Hence we paid 20$. Back in the Thai immigration office they told us that as a Thai with an ID card it just costs 30 Baht--too late. However, I don't know if that way she could have stayed two weeks as well..... Hope this helps someone
