webfact Posted January 4, 2019 Share Posted January 4, 2019 Two injured as fire breaks out on Chao Praya pleasure boat Picture: Thai Rath Thai and foreign tourists fled for their lives as fire broke out on a pleasure cruiser in Bangkok's Chao Praya river last night. "The Vertical Cruise" had just left Asiatique when a kitchen worker noticed smoke coming from the engine room. The boat was taken to the jetty at Charoen Krung Soi 72 where the tourists hurried to disembark. Two were injured - a Thai kitchen worker who suffered an injury to her left ankle and a foreign tourist whose nationality was not reported. They were taken to hospital. Thai Rath said the boat was on its way to the Rama 8 bridge when fire broke out in the engine room. Firemen took 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Anything in Thailand that floats and carries people should be considered dangerous. That warning can also include public transport that floats on wheels. There seems to be too much emphasis placed on identifying or pigeon-holing a nationality. It was a passenger who got injured - where he or she was from is of no consequence!
