Craig Challen and Richard Harris have been awarded as the 2019 Australian of the Year for their contribution the Thailand cave rescue mission.

They were part of the international contingent of skilled divers that brought expertise to the team that were able to figure out a way to safely extract the 13 members of the Mu Pa football team in July 2018.

Suzanne Packer, Danzal Baker and parents Kate and Tick Everett were also acknowledged for their contributions to Australia, taking out the awards in the Senior Australian, Young Australian and Local Hero categories, respectively.

Pretty typical, par for the course, would you really expect anything different,  was DT the lead rescuer?

Even the tea lady is getting a medal for this one.

And probably well deserved along with hundreds of others who handly got a mention throughout the rescue - - - - not all hero's wear capes.

Correct to think of the others who contributed but these two were at the sharp end.

Correct, they deserve all the accolades given, although it would seem very little from a certain country, but guess a 7-11 discount card is better than nothing ????

He got lambasted for his tweet for appearing to take credit for the operation, at a time when four boys had already been successfully removed from the cave:

“The U.S. is working very closely with the Government of Thailand to help get all of the children out of the cave and to safety,” he tweeted Sunday morning. “Very brave and talented people!”

The popular choice from the majority for a change, not like most times over the past decade of political correctnes, not a minority was even mentioned, well done fella's.

Yes, great that they got properly honoured, ditto the Brits involved early this month. It'd have been a disgrace if they hadn't after such selfless heroism.
