My 1 year extension expires May 6 2019. When do I have to reapply? 2 weeks prior, 30 days prior?

You can apply up to 30 days early. There is no minimum number of days to do it other than the last day,

But I wouldn't go on the last day just in case they ask for that one piece of paper you don't have with you.
