Just wondering. The taste of Thai chicken, pork and beef seems so much fresher than in the West. Even while cooking, the aroma is better. Any info on this, TV members? Txs.

My wife only buys pork and beef direct from the people that slaughter the animals. It's literally still quivering when she gets it home and I leave it in the fridge to 'set' overnight.

Anyone who's lived up country will have been to parties where a pig is killed, chopped up, cooked and eaten on the spot. Can't get much fresher than that.

fresh it may be but hormone city it is if its from the major companies.... there's a thread about chickena nd hormones in the farming thread if i remember correctly...

not to mention if they actually wait until the withdrawal dates after giving antibiotics etc; plus the additives in the animals' food; plus the stuff they inject into the meat to keep it looking pink etc....

home grown may be different but even then, u never know what theya re being fed...

village does not mean natural; they love giving extra stuff if they can afford it for bigger better etc.... hormones for the corn, antibiotics for the chickens, pesticides galore in the rice fields... go to the farming thread and search for some of these key words, u'd be surprised with what shows up...

i know, i post in that thread a lot and there are some major league village farmers there....

I've raised beef cattle for years and now pigs. Although it may not surprise you that I follow good practice, I have to say that my fellow village livestock rearers (with whom I chat with regularly) similarly do not overuse antibiotics or feed / inject performance enhancers. I eat locally produced meat in total confidence.

khonwan, good to know but after having several farmers showing me a field of tall corn and say 'hormones hormones', i suspect everything.
