webfact
Thai social media in 5555555 breakdown as man relates his roadside sign story Thai Social Media went into hysterical meltdown after a motorist went on Facebook to relate what happened to him on the road to Pai in northern Thailand. "Chakkrit Constantine" saw a series of signs and was convinced that they were warning him about a hazardous bend ahead. One by one the signs (in Thai) said: Please drive.....slowly.....ahead......there is....... The suspense got unbearable until the punchline came.... Spicy Thai sausage. Lo and behold - rather than a white knuckle bend on the mountain road was a seller of Sai Ua - a traditional Thai sausage popular with millions. Chakkrit hammed it up by suggesting that he was shaking uncontrollably as the expected bend approached! Tens of thousands shared the funny story. Some people who just commented with 555555555 (haa being the word for five and the sound of laughter) got dozens of likes. Why not go out and enjoy a sausage today! Sai (falling tone) Ua (low tone) should get the job done! Source: Thai Rath -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2019-03-

SammyT
I can't be the only one who cringes every time a westerner types "555" in some misguided attempt to be cool/Thai? It's not exactly hard or significantly slower to write the word "hahaha" instead of "555" 2 3

Not remotely funny to other people. Edited March 5, 2019 by Thaiwrath

They were everywhere when I was growing up in those days. I think they were started by Burma Shave in the 1930s. If Burma Shave wasn't the first, they were certainly the most creative.
