30 Day Extension for Visa On Arrival

Featured Replies

I have been reading a ton of articles about 30 day extensions and most of them cover the extension for the 60 day visa's only. A few articles I read clearly say you cannot get a 30 day extension for a Visa on arrival. Looking at a thread on here it seems that you can get a 30 day extension for a visa on arrival if you go within 7 days of it being up. Everything on here about the extension seems to talk about Jomtien Immigration office though and none of the posts reference Bangkok.

So my question:  I am from USA, my 30 day visa on arrival is up in 6 days, can I get a 30 day extension here in Bangkok ?

If from USA you do not have a 'Visa on Arrival' you have a 'Visa Exempt ' entry and, yes, you can get a 30 day extension with that.

A 30 day visa on arrival does not exist. A visa on arrival is only for 15 days and is only for those from certain countries that qualify for one.

You seem to be writing about a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

That is correct. You are confusing Visa On Arrival (VOA) with Visa Exemption (VE).

You don’t need to get a VOA because your nationality qualifies you for the visa exempt scheme.

Yes. You can be extend your current permission to stay at the immigration office in Bangkok by another 30 days.

Perfect, thanks everyone. Hopefully this thread will show up on Google and clear up the misconception on 30 day extensions for Visa On Arrival vs Visa Exempt for other Americans who did not realize the difference like me.
