I know that this query has been touched on before but there has never been a definitive answer as to how Immigration would consider it.

I extend based on marriage having used my Bangkok Bank savings account for the past 4 years to meet the required balance of over 400.000 baht. The money has been transferred in from overseas and Immigration see usage of this account. Because of the pathetic rates of interest on savings accounts, I want to transfer 400-500,000 baht into a fixed rate account in order to get a decent rate of interest and then use this account next time to meet the Immigration requirement. However there seems to be different views as to whether this is acceptable which may be dependent on the Immigration official you actually see on the day of extending. I also don't want to transfer anymore money in from overseas in the future.

One possible problem using a fixed rate account may be not showing any evidence of how I spend money to support myself and the wife. For this I have my salary paid into an account of another bank which I routinely use for day to day living expenses. I want to continue renewing based on a bank balance and not income.

My questions are would Immigration accept a Fixed Rate account when renewing? Secondly would I have to show evidence of transferring money in from overseas if they do accept a Fixed Rate account and/or alternatively show evidence of my other account in which my salary is paid into and money is seen going out, including work permit and tax payment records?

Hope there are some experts out there who can clarify or people that have successfully used fixed rate accounts.

It would be up to the office/officer involved and as this is a grandfathered provision would not expect decisions to be liberal. But we (or at least I) really don't know.

I just renewed my marriage visa and the officer in Chiang mai said next time please keep the money in your reggular account and not in a fixed account. They want to see all the activity.
