US Marine survives 9-storey fall

Tough as nails, but badly injured

PATTAYA: -- The old adage that the US Marines are tough proved somewhat true last week when PFC Reginald Williams fell from his 9th floor room at the Welcome Plaza Hotel.

Williams sustained serious spinal injuries, however, and compound fractures to his legs and pelvis.

After the incident was reported to the local police and the media, US military personnel assisted in bringing the injured man down from a ledge onto which he had fallen. He was then rushed to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Police attending the scene went to the man’s hotel room where initial investigations showed no sign of a struggle. However, a window through which Williams had fallen, was broken.

US military police will investigate the case. Initial suspicions suggest attempted suicide, but the true cause may never be known.

Over 6,000 US military personnel are in Thailand for the annual Cobra Gold training exercises in Sattahip and Korat. The training maneuvers ended May 27.

Through his drunken haze,he might have spotted the enemy outside the window, gotten paranoid and decided that the maneuvers were still on? :D

Once a U.S. Marine by training and conditioning,always a Marine! :o

GERONIMO!GERONIMO! :D

He fell onto a ledge, suffered serious spinal injuries and compound fractures to legs and pelvis?

And didn't fall off the ledge?

Something smells.

The story from Pattaya Mail is not quite correct. He did not suffer spinal injuries and the number of US Marines in Pattaya is far more than 6,000 this year, its nearer 14,000!!!!

Up2U,

The ledge in question was the roof to the main entrance, that is why it broke his fall.

There may be 14,000 marines in Thailand, but they are not in Pattaya, most are in the northeast.

So if it was suicide , why didn't he tie his hands behind his own back :o

Well if it were suicide all the yank had to do was go in the hallways by the elevator. There are no windows, so its quite easy to do a swan dive.

My gf told me it was on the news and apparently he was quite legless or least they were reporting that. :o

Hope the young Marine survives with no residual complications....if he does he will have one ###### of a story and will never forget his stay in Thailand. At least there were no plastic bags involved.

He should have joined the Paras' , they give you a chute :o

And he was singin' a star fell from heaven during the dive.

:D

If he'd of landed on his head he probably would have been fine, (apart from damaging the floor) :D

Well I've finaly found out the truth about what happened that night :o

Apparently he had been talked into doing a bungy jump by his friends the following day. :D

He got himself really worked up and worried about it as he had never done one before, so he decided to have a practice go.....and the rest,as they say, is history :D

Is it appropriate to make a joke out of this? He is probably permanently injured and his career in the army is almost definetly over. Admin should know better

Lighten Up PCN.

If we cant make fun of farangs swan diving from Pattaya Condos then there's no use having a "Pattaya General Topics" Local forum.

We would just be the same as all those other local forums.

Yeh! Just like the four Falangs in Pattaya while I was there, who 'commited suicide' after they had put plastic bags over their heads . Secured them with Duck tape , then taped their hands behind their backs!!!!!

Had a good time in Pattaya incidentally.........Going back to stay ASAP.

Was working in Saudi in the late seventies - the Saudi Para's went out for a practice jump at Tabuk. A whole stick went in - Roman Candled the lot. Investigation showed that the chutes, sent to UK for re-packing after each use - had been brought back thru' Customs. All were opened to check that there were no bottles of booze, copies of Penthouse, etc., hidden inside. Then stuffed back in the pack.

British Aerospace smuggled all subsequent re-packs into the country with the MODA connivance. (Ministry of Defence and Aviation)

After all the levity, a more serious question.

Is it true that the yanks are here in Pattaya because they have discovered that the bars are filled with the coalition of the willing? In fact the ready, willing and Mabel.
