Dakhar
Have u ever stepped off the sky train on Nana. I must look like a sex starved person (is that obvious) because the tuk tuk drivers come swarming at me, waveing photos of naked women, saying "Take u boom boom".... if only they had a computer and high speed link up, imagine what they would do. PRGUY
If the agents and the US government is really sincere about eradicating child prostitution in Thailand, they should put more efforts in ensuring that all these places that the agents visited were busted and the poor kids rescued along with media coverage of the criminals behind it. Also it is disgusting these days that the paedophiles are running modelling agencies for kids and if u were to browse the internet they have sites for kid models where little girls and boys are dressed in sexually provocative ways...these sites should be banned.....anybody claiming to be interested in such arts are sick in their minds and are paedophiles...do not use art as an excuse. Also, all of us decent expats here can do something...if ever you spot or have strong suspicions of any other expats who could be indulging in such activities....report them immediately. yaketyak
If you read the article it says "appeared to be as young as 12" the key word being appeared. Thai girls who are 21 can look 15 , so a 16 year old could look 12. It seems the only thing they could prove was that a girl/s of 15 years old were being used. Whilst not condoning that , its not the crime of the century either.
kat
So, you think this guy’s bad, well read on……I’ve done some undercover work before which has included underage prostitution being sold in English language publications in Thailand. Let me give you an example: Pick up a copy of Thailand’s biggest selling English language newspaper and at the back of the Classifieds section you will see advertisements for ‘oil massage’, ‘aroma massage’ and ‘body massage’. Now, most are Thai run but some are Indian run. Call around a bit and you will probably come into contact with an Indian agent who will procure anything earthly possible. Yes, underage prostitution. Not so long ago, I sent an email to the Classified section of this newspaper informing them of the advertisements which were offering underage prostitution (not much older than what the guy in this story has been done for). I got no reply, so I wrote again. Again – silence. Until this day, underage prostitutes are being sold to clients on the back page of this newspaper. I also found that most of the addresses posted on these advertisements were terribly fake. Something along the lines of 34 Sukhumvit Road or 6 Silom. When I enquired into the actual address of the ones offering underage prostitutes, I found on two occasions that they were indeed owned by Indians located at ******** Condo near Victory Monument, nothing like the ad had stated. Anyway, I pushed the matter further to clampdown on these pimps but alas, no-one took the matter seriously…….. Quite frankly I find your avatar to be rather creepy. astral
I think it is a good idea to be well informed about the age of consent, to avoid being arrested for statutory rape of a 20 year old, in a country/state that has the age barrier set at 21............ peter991
In news just in (Saturday, 09 June 2007), Australian pedophile Bradley Pen Dragon (47 years), who was given a Royal Pardon 12 months ago, after spending 10 years of his 15 year sentence in Bangkok's Klong Prem prison was back in court yesterday in Perth (Australia) accused of having graphic pictures of children being sexually abused. Obviously he didn't learn too much in a Thai prison. Peter
Ijustwannateach
I hope that I speak for the majority of the Thaivisa readership- and certainly for the mods group- in saying that we don't want to see a discussion about what constitutes child pornography on this thread. A lengthy off-topic digression and associated flames have been removed. Any more moves in that direction will get the thread closed and probably earn the member a penalty. Please closely stick to the topic- which is the American arrested for his involvement in a Thai prostitution racket. "Steven"

richard10365
While the story is specifically about Thailand, we should not forget the problem is just as bad in the USA and other western countries. It amazes me how our government can rush into other countries to fight this problem but can't seem to clean out the own back yard first.
