I have a friend who has been here 3 months. He has just got his 1st annual 1 year extension which is how I met him and his Thai wife and their beautiful little girl.

 

He has been making what I would call stupid choices and decisions at every turn. Now the family are broke, the little girl is in the ICU and the insurance for her does not cover the costs. He spent his 400,000 on the relatives home on the assurance the rich side of the family would give it back later. Who knows? Dopy sod also bought a brand-new Mitsubishi Expanda - a litany of errors!

 

He bought two big parcels of land, one of which is in a prime major road location and 7-Eleven want to rent it, one was for a house he can no longer afford.

 

He was a Berlin bus-driver so is highly trained as their training regime is strict and highly intensive. He speaks German, English, and one of the Slav languages too.

 

Can he, on his non-imm O with extension get a work permit to maybe drive here? Possibly for one of the embassies?

I year extension based on what ? the more info you give the quicker and accurate the advice.

Ah, sorry, I though referring to the 400,00 would have made it clear. Based on marriage to a Thai.

 

If he has has already gotten a extension of stay stamp he is good for almost a year.

Driving is a prohibited job. It is restricted to Thai's only. I don't think embassy employees are exempt from that rule.

If he cannot get another extension he could get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage.

Can you suggest what job he might do Ubonjoe? And can he get a work permit anyway?

 

I really want to help him, he is not an old man, mid 40's I think, 3 yr old child, wife runs a salon he bought her but they only clear circa 20,000 a month.

 

Just stupid and got into a mess through loving the family too much.

I think the solution is simple - sell his assets assuming they can be sold

Exactly.

OP are you aware what he would earn in los even if he could get a job. He has been stupid with the little money he had, now its time to head to home country and get a job. Come to los when he can. Which will be couple of months per year earning bus driver salary, and needing send money over to Thailand for all and sundry. Yes I sound harsh but seen it all to often.
