Lkn Inn: Anyone Ever Heard Of This?

I'm looking for a guest house near Bang Sue Station and the weekend market, and I stumbled upon the LKN Inn on the net (www.lkninn.com). Has anyone any experience of this hotel and the neighbourhood? Its location map looks too good to be true, but, like so many of these location maps, it's a bit short on specifics, such as the names of nearby Skytrain and MRT stations.

I would appreciate an evaluation from the local experts!

it gives the distances i meters at the bottom of the map, though i think i would probably top myself if i had to spend a night in one of those rooms.

Yes, t.s., I saw those distances.... and it sounds great, but I am skeptical, having seen so many other location maps for hotels which bear little resemblance to reality. If it's in such a perfect location for the Weekend Market, why don't more people stay there, and why is it so hard to find out anything about it by googling?

What troubles you about the rooms, by the way? A room, in my view, is a place to sleep, and the only time I feel uncomfortable in a standard room is when I get one without a window. The website doesn't mention windows, but I presume there has to be at least one, somewhere in the building!

it is almost a miracle that it is on the net at all, you would be surprised how difficult it can be to find bangkok businesses on the web. as for ythe distances, i think you can probably believe them, the map makes sense given what i know of the area.

as for the rooms they are just too sterile for my tastes though if all you want to do is crash fair enough

t.s., if you know the area, can you work out for me from the map the names of the Skytrain and MRT stations it lists? I am guessing as follows:

"265m (along Phaholyothin Rd) to BTS Skytrain" (near hospital): would that be Saphan Khwai?

"800m (along the same road) to BTSkytrain and Underground" (together): is this Mo Chit and Chatuchak Park?

Does this mean that the Skytrain stations (Saphhan Khhwai and Mo Chit, anyway) are only 500m apart?

Finally, what's the area like? We're going as a family -- two daughters -- and while we're very happy to experience the "real" Bangkok and to avoid the strictly-tourist shopping areas around, say, Siam Square and Sukhumvit, at the same time I don't want us to wind up in an area where all the hotels rent by the hour! Sterile rooms are, you will understand, the least of my concerns!

I apologise for asking all these questions.... hope you don't mind replying one more time! But you obviously know SOMETHING about this area, but all I have are the photos on www.lkninn.com!

This area is mainly a shopping area frequented by Thais. As well as there being several offices in close proximity.

The BTS in question is Saphan Kwai.

The road on which it is situated is a busy road.

I very much doubt that there would be too many rooms rented by the hour, and I doubt there would be too many tourists, though the fact that the website is in English tells me that they are trying to attract them!!

Its not in a 'great' area but I guess location wise its ok.

Pricewise I suppose its not so bad.

as j&D said, it is not really a "farang" area in terms of restaurants, shopping or attractions, though it is on the BTS and stuff, but pahonyothin is a major street. The area is quite outside the "core" Bangkok areas of Silom, Sukhumvit etc though if it is JJ market you are interested in it is pretty convenient. just dont know if there is much to do around there.

As for distance, google earth says it is approx 1km betweenthe stations, so the distances given are likely relative to the guesthouse.

Thanks again, JacknDanny and t.s.. I think I am beginning to get the picture now. The map makes it look like the two BTS stations are along the same road as the guest house, both on the same side... which is why I worked out about 500 metres apart. Never thhought to look at Google earth! Don't tink I'd know how!

I am really grateful for your help, both of you. Unless a third person comes along in the next couple of days to warn me off the place, I think I will go ahead and book LKN. As far as I am concerned, being away from the tourist shops and the western-commercial atmosphere is a big plus... I'm not worried about not being able to find anything to do.... but this WOULD be a worry if I had to spend my time in shopping centres which sold the same stuff as I can buy at home. There are a lot of things I want to do in and around Bangkok, but bargain hunting in department stores is not one of them!
