Legal Motorbike Driving Age?

I have a 14 year old stepson who resides just outside of Bangkok who wants to be just like all his friends. They "all" have motorbikes and he has to follow them around on his bicycle. A completely humiliating experience at 14 I guess. At least thats how he puts it.

I'm guessing the children at 14 are driving without a license? I know I've seen this a lot in the country but not so much in the city? What is the legal age for motorbike licenses? I see that the drivers license is 18, but is it the same for a motorbike?

Yes............But seems that is totally overlooked.... I recently saw a lill smash up in Patong with a youth certainl being under 18 but that seems to be not a issue as the coppers extimated the damaage and the youth got payment on the spot...However, it was a Maow Farang... So, what will be the truth as wea all see them etc>...

I think iit is only a problem if you have a smash up!

According to the Thai "Highway Code", the legal minimum age for obtaining a motorcycle license is 15. However, there is a 90 cc restriction on the engine capacity until the license holder is 18 years old.

Actually the retsriction is now 110cc which alloes you to drive the low range waves, click, etc.. However I believe the majority of people out of the citys have never actually seen a motorbike license. Even in BKK the police arnt interested but the insurance becomes an issue.

First of all, nice topic!

Because I don't want to open a new topic in this wonderful and helpful forum, I wanted to know, if it is allowed to drive with a license, for driving a motorcycle, for a 16 year old a Honda CBR 150 R.

Thanks in advance for your answers and have a nice evening.

The village i live in in NE Thai is just the same, young kids, sometimes 4 on a bike and a dog in the basket ect, the dog is probaly older than any of the kids!! the traffic lights, 2 sets in village go onto take a chance at 7pm, you know, flash red and amber, but the kids use this as a game of hazard, flat out through lights!! the local coppers sit at there little place near the lake with buddha temple reading papers or playing cards, what are they paid to do??? why dont they stop these kids and confiscate the bike until parents pay the fine, why dont they run some kind of training school for 15 year olds ect, ok, got that of my chest for now or untill i go out on my bike again i suppose!!

The Boys in Brown never seem to inforce the law unless they have a specific crackdown. When have you ever seen someone pulled over because of no helmet unless there were three or four Boys in Brown together doing a spot check? Issangeorge
