jasreeve17
Japan and UK. Both are islands at the end of large continents. The people are both linked closely to the continent mainland, and fiercly independant / diffferent from that same continent. Both are (arguably) far more successful and innovative than their mainland cousins. Both have (arguably) closer links to the US than their own continent. Both fear consumption from their respective continent mainland. Both love Asahi and Japanese women. (especially me)

miminem
Italy and Corsica?Work it out, ...full of Italians, yet owned by the French.... I would correct: Corsica (not yet a country on its own) and UK: both are islands and both have had problems with French.
Tilokarat
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom - same head of state, same language, same rule of law, same liberal self-deprecators, same love of roast beef, historical links and so on. Canada, by the way, has two national flags, one of which is the Union flag so that all four have similar flags. Thailand and Laos - similar culture, and the language is similar in Issan to Laos (obviously). Laos might be part of Thailand today if not for France, and Thailand might not have escaped colonialism but for astute Thai rulers and Britain. Norway, Sweden and Denmark - similar language, history, food and culture (maybe Iceland should be included here). Belgium and Switzerland - great chocolate. I almost forgot the cousins - Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Tied by political, social, economic and military reasons. I will leave someone else to sort out Central and South America, and Africa.

Old Croc
Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Maldives. A 50 cm rise in sea levels caused by global warming could cause all or large parts of these nations to be under water, or uninhabital because of contaminated drinking water. farangsay
I read today in the newspaper that the korean are said to be the "irish " of Asia since almost a century. I wonder why. Anybody knows? Do Irish eat Kimchi with beer? Probably the fact that both nations found themselves in too-close proximity to more powerful plundering neighbours. The difference is time-scale and self-help. It took the Irish eight hundred years to eject the undesirables but they did it themselves.

I dont like cricket anyway, it's for softies, check this joke! A distraught woman rushed into a Police Station claiming she had been raped. The Desk Sergeant calmed her down and asked her to provide details. She told him that it was a man of average height dressed in white, wearing protective pads on his legs and forearms, and he had on a helmet and gloves. "That sounds as if the man was a cricketer" observed the policeman. "Oh yes he was" replied the woman, "and what's more he was an Englishman". "I suppose you guessed that because of his accent " said the Sergeant. "No" the woman said, "it was because he didn't stay in very long."

Japan and Uk very similar. If you ask a Japanese guy if he's Asian, he may say ' No I'm Japanese'. And the Brits being an Island race tend to feel the same, the Europeans start in France, the Brits are British, not continentals.
