BANGKOK, 23 August 2019(NNT) - Thailand is hosting the ASEAN Smart Cities Network 2019 to further develop Smart City development plans, and hoping to create standards for the construction of intelligent cities in ASEAN.

Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, opened the ASEAN Smart Cities Network: ASCN 2019 today, as Thailand is the Chair of ASEAN this year.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered a special lecture on being a network partner for sustainability saying that ASEAN is now guiding 26 cities under the ASCN into becoming Smart Cities, which will create sustainability, economic and social opportunities and investment.

Thailand already has three smart cities, namely Phuket, Sriracha and Bangkok and is in the process of developing other areas into smart cities. This year, ASEAN has received cooperation from the G20 countries which helps share information, transfer technology to solve smart city problems and disseminates various case studies on becoming a smart city by following a sustainable pattern.

The ASEAN Smart Cities Network 2019 is being held for the second time. Activities include the ASCN Annual Meeting 2019 which is a closed meeting of 26 pilot smart cities to determine the framework, before summarizing all plans and submitting them to the 35th ASEAN Summit which will be held in November 2019.

A smart city exhibition by 70 exhibitors including entrepreneurs and government and private agencies worldwide, are exhibiting innovative technology related to smart cities. The event also features a seminar with speakers who are leading city development experts from Thailand and abroad. Those interested can visit the event on August 24, 2019 at GMM Live House, Central World.

Currently, the ASCN consists of 26 cities in ASEAN member countries, namely Bandar Seri Begawan, Bangkok, Chonburi, Phuket, Banyuwangi, Battambang, Cebu, Danang, Davao, Jakarta, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Kucing, Luang Prabang, Makassar, Mandalay, Manila, Naypyidaw, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Singapore, Vientiane and Yangon. All 26 cities have great potential for development, especially in terms of infrastructure, data connection, the digital technology system and culture. More cooperation in these areas is expected in the near future.

Smart Cities are where everyone - other than the global elite, of course - are going to end up under the UN Agenda 21/30 for a "sustainable" future.

Once decanted into a Smart City stack-and-pack apartment with 24/7 surveillance a la 5G and the Internet of Things, there will be no privacy and virtually no freedom.

Cars will be a thing of the past, along owning any other possessions. Necessities will be provided by the state. Everything else must be hired. Seeing is believing. . .
