Public Health Minister to uphold decision on farm chemicals

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has condemned those behind death threats received by analysts tasked with pursuing a ban on three chemicals being used in the agricultural sector.

 

The Public Health Minister expressed his condemnation but voiced confidence the situation won’t get out of hand. Mr. Anutin said he believed in the necessity of the likely ban. He added that the study is for the good of public health and urged those behind threats to seek open discussion.

 

"I dare them to come here and talk to me openly. What’s the use of threatening the academics Threaten [Deputy Minister] Mananya or threaten me instead."

 

He gave an assurance that both the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives are firm in their desire to see concrete results concerning the three chemicals. He remarked that Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, will have to base his ultimate decision on what is best for the public as well as votes in Parliament.

 

The Prime Minister recently acknowledged diverging opinions concerning the three chemicals but said a conclusion based on research would be most appropriate.

 

"On whether or not we should stop or reduce use of fertilizers, I’ve already said that health is the most important aspect, but that seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Consumers are concerned for their health even if farmers may think one way and academics another. In the end, the data will decide. I would accept an end to their use but it would be a matter of how it’s done. They will have to figure that out because I am not in conflict with anyone."

 

Farmers and members of the Federation of Safe Agriculture earlier indicated agreement with the Committee on Toxins, which ruled to allow continued use of the three chemicals but in a limited fashion. The groups deemed the conclusion thoroughly considered in light of the chemicals not having readily available replacements, and urged the wider public to understand the practical implications of the matter.

they slaughter the animals before they die on the floor they are "grown" or too sick to for the trip to the slaughter house .... but in thailand, street vendors can buy those dead animals and resell at a good profit margin once minced & cooked

There's enough research already available in the world concerning those 3 chemicals that you could lay the foundations for the Commander-in-Chiefs new palace.... stop debating and ban them !

Get er' done Thailand. Quit letting greed get in the way. This will not end well for ANY body.
