The Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT) signed a memorandum of understanding with TTCL on a sustainable rubber plantation management project under international standards to provide knowledge on management and develop renewable energy.

RAOT acting governor Sunan Nuanphromsakul said after the signing ceremony that the authority would develop and set criteria on sustainable rubber plantation management according to international standards such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSCTM) and the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme.

“We will urge rubber farmers to participate in this project to improve and develop their practices in order to increase the value of latex, rubber wood and other goods. We will also distribute their goods via both domestic and international marketing channels to boost their incomes,” he said.

Sunan said the RAOT has applied FSCTM certification for its 8,050 rai of rubber plantations, latex factories and rubber wood processing plants. Farmers who are interested in applying for the certificate to join the project can register with us, he added.

Meanwhile, Jirawat Sukplang, TTCL senior manager of Sales and Business Development, said it was possible to develop the renewable energy business, which would be important in the future amid global warming.

“Sustainable rubber plantation management is a key to produce biofuels for power plants,” Jirawat said.
