General Apirat Kongsompong

Army chief General Apirat Kongsompong is scheduled to deliver a speech at a special seminar on Thursday (October 11) being held at the Army headquarters to explain the armed forces’ role in providing security under current circumstances.

This seminar is part of the Army’s public relations efforts to provide its side of the story after it charged 12 people, including Opposition leaders and academics, of sedition.

The sedition charges came when the Opposition and academics held a seminar on the solutions for southern border provinces and the government’s campaign to amend the Constitution.

Representatives from seven political parties have filed a countersuit against the 4th Army Area commander.

Meanwhile, the special seminar will also touch upon the subject of senior judge Khanakorn Pianchana shooting himself in a Yala courtroom after reading a verdict. It is believed he turned the gun on himself to protest against his supervisors interfering in his verdict on a criminal case.

Apirat had previously said that his speech would focus on solving problems in the South, especially since he had once commanded a special task force in Yala province and had spent a year and a half living in the South.

another government sponsored event to attack the opposition.

he did say just after the election, that he withdraws from commenting on politics - that's after being criticised for ordering army radio and other broadcast channels to play fascist songs and many other orders and statements.

he is the son of an army chef who run military coup in 1991. He is the next coup maker, when prayuth government fails. He did openly said before the election, that he will organise it.

Thus proving incapable of being TRUSTED by the insurgency to advance any peace talks.

When the Army charges civilians of sedition for just brainstorming peace solutions, insurgent leadership will not bother any peace engagements with the Prayut pro-military government.

General Apirat Kongsompong needs to stand down from making public engagements that only serve to reinforce politicalization of the military command.

Apirat and public relations should not ever appear in the same sentence.

As long as there is unrest there will be an important role for the military, extra budget, a lot of status, new conscripts, and ways to make money...

Sure you want the army to be involved this directly?

He appears to have a slightly lopsided gait and I don't think it's his tailors doing.

Is he wearing  a Justin Bieber badge ?
