Cabinet on Tuesday (October 15) approved a Bt24.278-billion budget for the first phase of income-guarantee subsidy for rubber farmers.

The scheme aims to ensure 1.4 million rubber farmers have a stable income for six months, starting from this month until March next year. The payments will be made via the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

The scheme guarantees the price of premium grade rubber sheets at Bt60 per kilogramme, latex at Bt57 per kg and cup lumps at Bt23 per kg. The maximum guaranteed amount will not exceed Bt240 per kilo per rai per year and will be limited to 25 rai per farmer.

Farmers who have registered with the Rubber Authority of Thailand will be eligible and the scheme will only cover plantations that are at least seven years old.

The first round of subsidy, covering October-November, will be transferred to farmers’ bank accounts between November 1 and 15, while the second round covering December-January 2020, will be paid between January 1 and 15. The third round of payments for February-March will be paid between March 1 and 15.

I'd like to see the government official that decided this dramatic help live on less than 6500 baht a year

If they just lower this subsidies to only 23 billion, they have enough money left to recover from the 0.5 billion 'burden' in medical costs from foreigners for 2 years!

here we go again, subsidizing farmers, so much for being part of the world market and accepting the world prices, better off just closing the country out of world markets if farmers have to be subsidized when the world prices drop below what the farmers want, they want the sales/world market without the risks

I can remember 'wine lakes', 'butter mountains' etc.

What would you call it for rubber????

surely one rai produces on average more then one kilo.

Someone should be jailed for this ????

Given 1 Rai produces between 200 - 400 kg of rubber per year, and the government will pay 60-baht per kg.

That's 25 rai x 200kg x 60 baht = 300,000 baht.

Kudos to the rubber farmers, they get 24 billion for 1.4 million growers for 6 months.

Meanwhile the rest get 3.1 billion for 1 million farmers for 12 months if your in the selected fields.

If the farmers can't make a living growing rubber then they need to grow something else

this time subsidies will go to farmers in the south, who voted for the democrat party and junta.

for the rice subsidies yingluck government was overthrown, ministers jailed, she had to run abroad to avoid long sentence and her property confiscated. Army called it "corruption"

Rice subsidy vs Rubber subsidy. Yingluck vs Prayut. Same same but different. Elected vs coup. Sad. PM so hypocritical. So Sad.

Do you think farmers will jump on cannabis and then in 5 years time, the price of cannabis is so low they get subsidized...or sell some out the back door to make ends meet?

The State might as well nationalize the entire agriculture and cooperatives industry and consolidate all its diverse subsidy policies.

Then everything would belong to the state the state would decide where and how you live what you eat what you do. Sounds like communism you pick a mango and eat it without the states permission you get sent to the gulog
