Very sad, so many drownings in S.E. Asia ???? Every beach with strong currents should have a lifeguard and water scooter present.

Unlike in Australia local people almost never take their clothes off and swim in the sea so there is no awareness of the dangers.

I am a powerful swimmer and love swimming in the sea in Cambodia and Thailand yet i often notice myself being swept to one side or the other or worse out to sea so that it becomes much harder to return to the shore than to swim out, Yes there are powerful currents that swimmers should be aware of and certainly swimming at night after a party while the sea may look very inviting in an area you don't know should be avoided.
