I've recently returned back to Thailand after a short spell back home, any gen on whats happening about teaching in Thailand after the problems in January. Is it ok to start looking for another job. Taught before for many years, and want to start again.

1) what is a 'gen' and 2) why would it EVER not be ok to look for a job unless you are planning on working illegaly?

OP, it's probably ok to look for work for which you have proper qualifications and for which your visa will be ok... other than saying that, it's hard to answer your question without more information.

Hello smegle,

Generally, if you'll give us a gen idea of what you mean, we'll try to generate a gen response for you. Do you have a general education, a GED, general's stars; are you a general nuisance, etc.? :o

Seriously, it would be better to begin your first post more like this,

"Hi, I'm from the country of ____, and my highest formal educational level is _____. I'm a fluent, native speaker of English. I previously taught in Thailand at a _____ school for ___ months, and I'll be coming to Thailand on a __ visa. Do you think I'll get hired to teach _____?

If you have a white face and you are breathing you can get

a job teaching English in Thailand.

:o Howdy, cowboy!!

Of course, you can teach anywhere just mumbling Farsi or Magyar with a Nepalese accent. But then you might have problems with a teacher's license, a real visa, a work permit, the Thai culture test, the difference between a gerund and a participle, and what to do about those boys in the back row of 51 students, giggling over a cartoon on their mobile phone, and why you can't live like a stoned hippie on a sometimes salary of 27,000 baht per month.

Gen speaking, that is. :D

You forgot the period at the end of your sentence.

Since Smeagle hasn't updated us here, I'm just going to close this one down. Smeagle, I suggest you read the entire Questions About Qualifications thread and post any questions you have about your own qualifications there (in some detail, if possible).
