Court dismisses Thanathorn’s misconduct lawsuit against EC officials

The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases on Tuesday (December 24) dismissed a case in which Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit sued Election Commission chairman Itthiporn Boonprakong and seven EC officials for what he claimed was violation of Article 69 of the Election Commission Organic Law BE 2560 and for professional misconduct under Article 157 of the Criminal Code.

 

Thanathorn claimed the defendants unfairly rushed the investigation of the case involving him holding shares in V-Luck Media, which has caused him damage, forcing him to lose his MP status and defaming him.

 

The Election Commission investigation eventually led to a Constitutional Court verdict which saw Thanathorn losing his member of Parliament status on May 23. The court found he had registered to run in the March election while holding shares in a media company, in violation of the law.

The case, realistically, was a waste of time, he was never going to win it.

However, any publicity is good publicity, and anything he does, will be closely followed by the media, and keep him in the faces of these clowns in charge of Thailand.

The complaint filed in July by lawyer Natthaporn Toprayoon charges that the Future Forward Party seeks to overthrow Thailand’s constitutional monarchy. The new party, which won the third highest number of seats in a March general election, denies the allegation. It could be dissolved if convicted.

The court’s statement, made public Sunday, said no hearings would be held in the case because the court already had enough evidence. No date for its ruling was specified. Party spokeswoman Pannika Wanich said its request for a hearing was refused, but that it had sent the court documents in its defense."

The kid knew he didn't have a chance of winning against the powers that be, but he did the right thing in pursuing some justice to expose some truth about Thai politics. The rejection of the old guard by so many at the ballot boxes in favor of the FF party seems to have REALLY rattled them, and the witch hunt for reasons to chase Thanathorn (and any future upstarts like him) away from politics will be relentless. There's no room for progressive thinking in Thai politics.

Actually a retired Thai professor friend of mine has always stated that the door began to close on progressive thinking in Thailand round about the turn of the century.

In truth they don't know how to handle him, take him to court for everything they can think of will start to look like harassment or victimisation.

leave him alone and he'll gain strength and popularity.

Jail him and make him a martyr.

I think the Thai Government has been watching too many films.  You need to get back to reality peeps!

Thanathorn needs to take it to an international court where it is fair. already proven domestic courts are not in his favor. why? any guess is yours to make privately..

This "democratically elected" government must be pulling at their coloured hair 'til it hurts, as they regularly discuss this "thorn" in their sides. Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

It says it all! 'We' will do whatever we want to stop anybody getting in 'Our' way for as long as it takes. The Thai people love the Monarchy, but that shouldn't stop them from trying to change the way that a 'True Democracy' should work. The two of them should be as one and work together in harmony - not difficult to achieve if the 'Truth' be known; which it very rarely is in Thailand. Let's hope that this bodes well for the future of the Thai people in the years to come. I wish the future Forward party all the very best for the coming years.

Court of public opinion is where it hurts Thailand.  Arrived in Saigon to a packed immigration hall.  All channels were opened.  Though it was by no means fast, it was handled with grace.  Had a beer with some former Thailand residence now residing in Vietnam.  All had just enough during the cha cha years.  Hong Kongers looking for a second home are being waved off by Thai friends sick of junta rule and how it treats the opposition.  Yes, people are watching. 

Toe that line, Court.  God forbid you do any independent thinking, Court.  Must be such an easy job being a rubber stamp.
