Durian smashing highlights alleged irresponsibility of Harley-Davidson

Uthen Luangsangthong, the Thai impersonator of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and the manager of “Rich Neon Light”, a commercial sign company, December 25smashed a durian on the Haley Davidson motorbike he bought from AAS Harley-Davidson on June 2018, at the Ratchaprasong Intersection after encountering mechanical problems.

Earlier, the motorcycle was sent for inspection at the showroom after Uthen detected a problem. The showroom manager then contacted Uthen to pick up the motorcycle within three days, saying that the bike was in perfect conditions after a test-run from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

However, Uthen claimed that he still saw water leaking from the motor and took a picture to prove it.

After discussing with the showroom manager and Harley Davidson’s representative in Thailand, it was agreed that Uthen should add Bt150,000 to the bike's full price of Bt2.86 million in exchange for a new one.

Surprisingly, the showroom manager later went back on his word, arguing that the motorbike was still fixable and it was not necessary for a change to a new one.

Uthen decided to stage the incident in public as a protest against the lack of responsibility on part of AAS Harley-Davidson/Thailand.

some test run

Sounds more like a "doing something to get my name in the news" stunt than an issue with the bike.

I seriously doubt they did a test run to/from Chiang Mai. I also have to wonder at the supposed statements by the "showroom manager" that, on one hand, the bike was in perfect condition and then, on the other hand, that "it was still fixable".
I get the impression that the entire article is based solely on Uthen's version of events and that they (the Nation) never even talked to the dealership themselves.

AAS Harley Bangkok isn't the same as Somchai's back alley scooter (and Chopper) repair shop. I've dealt with some of those. Guys who think because they sort of know how to fix a Honda Wave that means they are qualified to fix Harleys as well.

I've dealt with AAS Harley Pattaya and they were very good. One look at their workshop tells you that they are professional and well managed.
If AAS Harley Bangkok did a test run, it wouldn't have been more than 20-30 kms and sure as **** wouldn't have been 675 kms (one way) to Chiang Mai (and then back again).

I'd almost suspect that this may be a case of someone trying to trade up to a newer model - for free - and when that didn't work decided to try the publicity stunt routine.

This from an apparent owner of a bike having an engine resembling a stomped upon scrotum.

The new ones may be, the elder models without all the electronic BS, like my 1975 FXE1200, still run great.

Very doubtful  !

2 Milion plus baht Harley's don't leak water. Why would they. Not sure about the 500 and 750 bikes but everything else is air cooled

Do they still, or have they ever sold the V rod in Thai? Surely nobody would pay 2 million baht plus for that!!

My 73 Sportster still gets around too on a four gears.

Since 2014 some models other than V-Rod has liquid cooled cylinder heads.

Got to be said that, while I personally, wouldn't thank you for a free one, they are generally very reliable, particularly as this gent points out the old models.

There is still minimal Electronic tech compared to European bikes and that's no bad thing.
