December 27, 20196 yr Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday began the trial of 12 men accused of organising a coup to overthrow the government last year. Presiding Judge Sour Linna identified them as Vorn Savann, 39; Sam Taing, 65; San Sao, 35; Meth Muoy, 71; Nob Vun, 48; Seang Vandoeun, 46; Peng Va, 45; Pen Bunthoeun, 53; Hong Kimeng, 54; Peng Sokha, 55; Ros Samon, 44; and Vorn Leng, 23. She noted that Savann and Taing who were the group’s leaders, were charged with organising a combat group and production or trafficking of weapons, explosives and ammunition. Judge Linna said the other ten were charged with participation in a combat group and production or trafficking of weapons, explosives and ammunition” under articles 485, 486 and 488 of the Criminal Code. She added that they all were arrested between September 30 and October 5 last year at different places in Phnom Penh, Kampong Speu, Kampot and Pursat provinces.
