Chalermchai Sreeon, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has set measures to boost the competitiveness of agricultural products and foods by 10 per cent in order to cope with the baht appreciation.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sreeon said on Wednesday (January 1) that the five measures were: agricultural logistics development, product development to increase product value, smart agriculture promotion, agricultural machinery development, and online trading management to increase market channels.

“These measures aim to reduce the production cost and increase the production capacity by applying technologies to increase product value and market channels,” he said.

“The agricultural technology promotion and agricultural logistics development committees are important mechanisms to drive these measures, with the cooperation of government agencies, the private sector, academics and farmers.”

He further explained that the National Agriculture Big Data Centre will be a central information database which farmers and private sectors can access via “Digital Farmer” application on smartphone and computer platform.

“Twenty-two departments under the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry will all provide online services from January 1,” he said.

“Moreover, we will establish the Agritech and Innovation Centre in 77 provinces within this year. This move will reform the country’s agriculture at the structural and system-level to deal with the baht appreciation and the fluctuation of the global economy,” Chalermchai said.

Meanwhile, the adviser to the Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, Alongkorn Ponlaboot, added that in 2020, the prolonged appreciation of baht is most worrisome, because it affects the country’s competitiveness, especially the export of low-margin agricultural products and foods.

“Tackling the baht appreciation issue is not easy and it cannot be resolved immediately, so we have to use parallel strategies to maintain the export value of agricultural products and foods worth more than Bt1 trillion per year,” he added.

Quality,it is already they ,the agricultural machinery development ,the machinery they already it is built for farmers in Thailand ,and it works ,and it last a long time ,see many a plough 10-15 year old .

On line trading ,a good idea  most farmers have smart phones ,could help them get a better price for they crops ,

Digital farming is here have seen farmers using drones, GPS to spry and apply fertilizer to crops .

The 22 departments providing online services ,has got to be a good move for the farmers ,farmers can access new ideas .

it is not going to change things over night ,but it is a start  .

Thai bashing .......................again.

It's Thailand so I'm certain there's huge corruption and inefficiencies but at the end of the day it's the currency. This is just ridiculous. The THB just hit a new high.

Nero fiddled...

It's like a mantra:

Thai bashing

Thai bashing.

Thai bashing.

Is it outrageous to notice that Thais are thicker than poop?

Is it outrageous to make positive suggestions? That's what you're doing.

Are you Thai bashing? If so then please stop it, or is your Thai bashing OK but everyone else's isn't?

Sheesh.

What have your Ministry been doing since the election? Took them 5 months to come out with just the outline measures. They should be hitting the road with implementation by now.

Thailand can't even compete domestically with pricing of imported garlic bulbs from China.
