Maybe. At the same time, it also functions as the code of moral discipline at individual level. Especially in a society not having (modern) education. Mankind better have either reasonable level of education or good religion to build up own internal moral code. Not having any of them, turns people ruthless savage/goon. I am not particularly practicing any religion myself. But still charmed by the goodness from Christianity (in my young days) and Buddhism in Thailand since my settlement here. Even though I also know about the draw backs of the religion at the same time. Monotheism sometime leads to the awful dogma (tunnel vision) that leads to the needless conflict with people of the different faith. Polytheism creates backward idea like Fatalism (own destiny is always pre-set before birth). But one thing I have come to convince through my experience (past and current) is, genuine follower of good religion are often kind and honest... Looks like they have compass inside them. -
