Alternate day ban for trucks on Kanchanapisek ring road to reduce pollution

Ten-wheel and trailer trucks will be banned from the Kanchanapisek ring road on alternate days for a two-month period, as part of a new set of strict measures to reduce PM2.5 dust in the atmosphere in Bangkok and its suburbs.

Heavy-duty trucks will be allowed to use the road on the other days from 10am to 3pm, said Mr. Jatuporn Burutpat, permanent secretary-general of the natural resources and environment department today, after a meeting of the Pollution Control Committee to map out stringent measures to reduce exhaust emissions from automobiles and smoke from factories.

He said he wanted to apologize to operators of the heavy trucks for the inconveniences caused by the ban, but stressed that the measure is necessary because exhaust emissions from vehicles account for 72% of fine dust particles in the atmosphere and that there are about 140,000 cargo trucks registered in Bangkok alone, including 99,999 diesel-engine trucks.

So on the days they can drive there will be twice as many..... I thought a lot of these big trucks ran on NGV.

Remove them from the main roads and they will use the back roads.

Sorry but where will the trucks go during the ban days and which roads will they use? Yeap..

Does that include petrol driven cars?

Is there a law stating how long a parked vehicle can keep the motor running? Almost every evening we have between 2 and 10 cars parked around our house for 2 hours and they keep the motors on all the time. When they move someone else comes and takes their place. The drivers sit in the cars while their Japanese bosses eat at all the new restaurants on our soi.

I have given up complaining as some drivers get aggressive, others turn off their motors, but as soon as I am gone they turn them on again.

If they pollute just ban them permanently!!

The fairies don't bring your favourite foods to the supermarket, a truck did it.

What is surprising is that the vehicles only emit particles at the same time the farmers are burning their fields. Must be some type of supernatural empathy.

Alternate days of truck multi rear ending each other.
