Chulalongkorn University imposes travel ban on staff members and students

In a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Thailand, Chulalongkorn University has imposed a ban on visiting or transit stopovers in seven countries and two special administration regions of China for its staff and students from today (Thursday) until April 19th.

In the announcement, issued yesterday, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau are listed as being at high risk for COVID-19 infection.

The latest preventive move is an extension of an earlier measure, issued on January 27th, in which it was announced that the taking of leave by students or staff members of the university during the outbreak of coronavirus will not be counted as leave of absence.

Fair enough.. but meanwhile the WHO can be quoted as reporting the following:

Quote WHO Covid-19 Situation report - 29:

[WHO does not recommend any specific health measures for travellers. In case of symptoms suggestive of respiratory illness either during or after travel, travellers are encouraged to seek medical attention and share their travel history with their health care provider.]

Come on, don't be coy. Let us know the "whoppers" as you call them around the time of SARS.

From what I remember, because of the WHO warnings at the time, SARS (a far more dangerous condition with about three times the mortality of the current coronavirus) was contained under rather difficult conditions.

Makes no sense to have Vietnam I that list at this point.

Unfortunately they cannot ban travel in Thailand, but i bet they wish they could ......

That's good, then they won't infect people there.

Ridiculous from a ridiculous university staff. Do the low IQ staff think they can ban the students or staff from traveling to these countries? It is stupid to even think this. But university staff think so low about their own students.

Maybe the ridiculous stupid staff should ban them from travelling in Thailand because Thailand wouldn't be able to handle an outbreak in Thailand according to experts.
