Lt Gen Perapong Manakit, chairman of the NBTC

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has imposed a fine of Bt500,000 each on three TV channels (ONE, ThairathTV, and Amarin-TV) for airing live the mass-shooting in Korat, under the Broadcasting and Television Operations Act 2008, section 57.

Live broadcast of such an incident has a harmful effect on the well-being of the general public, which is prohibited under Section 37 of the same act, according to the NBTC.

Had the amok-running assailant been a common criminal, everything would've been fine. But because he was in fact an army soldier, section 37 MUST of course be invoked, as all of a sudden the "well-being of the general public" is of utmost concern -- daily soap operas that frequently contain scenes of extreme violence notwithstanding.

You do realise that live streaming it gave the gunman a live feed of the outside of the mall he was holed up in right?

Or any associates he might have had.

How dare you get in the way of the righteous indignation and beating of chests. ????

You are absolutely right though of course- if he had been sat in Powerbuy with all the 50 inch screens turned on more lives could have been lost.  Far easier for some of them to strap their tinfoil hats on though. 'It's all a conspiracy I tell ya'. ????

A completely different issue as to what the fines are about, the issue raised is about harm to the supposed snowflakes.

Probably wanted the exclusive for the armies own channels, believe they own at least three, where else in the world would that be allowed!

Then they also need to fine all the Youtubers streaming live from the shootings. They can't control everything, unless they want to become North Korea.

The government here just wants to control everything TIT

Exactly right, having a live stream from inside the building gave the gunman information about what was going on outside & inside the building.. live news is one thing but they stepped over the line for viewing figures!

America seems to be the world headquarters for mass shootings. They do extensive coverage and I have always wondered if this was a good thing. They seem to make a celebrity of the shooters and some shooters make videos prior to their shooting to be shown after they die. Would a narrative by a journalist be sufficient? Is the live streaming for public knowledge or higher ratings?

What ? Now they are showing their Real colors Can't speak the Truth can't show the Real news. Is this what the Fake news Gang is doing? Hiding the real news and giving the people Fake news.

what about facebook ?

Next time they have to ask for a permit first.

I watched some of the Amarin broadcast at around 8pm that night. They cancelled a cookery competition episode to show it and you don't do that unless something serious is happening. Meanwhile on some other non independant channels the usual 8pm stuff was broadcast as normal.

Every time the TV Companies show the PM, it has a harmful effect on the well-being of the general public.
