MPs scramble for face masks when told a colleague just returned from Japan

Members of parliament scrambled for face masks in the middle of the censure debate yesterday evening (Wednesday) when they learned that a fellow MP, from the government Palang Pracharat party and who was among them, had recently returned from a visit to Japan, one of the COVID-19 high-risk countries.

Pheu Thai MP Dr. Cholnan Srikaew sought permission from the House Speaker for a consultation, saying that one Palang Pracharat MP, who had been in Japan, had also been attending the censure debate over the past two days.

Although the unidentified MP maintained that he had been cleared by doctors and had no symptoms, Cholnan said that the MP should be quarantined for 14 days and should not have attended the House meeting. He sought advice from the House Speaker, saying that he didn’t want his colleagues in parliament to panic, adding that there were not enough face masks for all MPs present.

Perhaps the entire government will be told to self-quarantine and stay home for 14 days. That would make it interesting.

Opportunity missed, could have handed out all surplus banned shopping bags.

That's beacuse Anutin gave them all away to foreigners.

Have they not read on here, or other reputable websites, that wearing a mask does Sweet Ms Adams to prevent catching the virus. It is only the carrier who needs to contain his/her own snot!

Since the MP is unnamed the safest and most responsible thing to do is have all Palang Pracharat MPs put a clear plastic bag over their heads and tie it tightly around the neck. This would prevent transmission of all sorts of things, virus included.

I thought he failed in that task, hence his little temper tantrum?

Perfect moment to ban digging ones nose! (which is the thai national sport).

It's funny how some of the more developed nations tackle the risk from coronavirus in a methodical and intelligent way, many even having contingency plans in place for just such an occasion. And then there are other countries (not mentioning any names), whose immediate reaction to the outbreak is to fiddle the figures and grossly under report the number of cases in the hope that it will go away and not be an issue.

Do they have specially moulded masks for their snouts?

Yes indeed, my thought as well! Could lock them all up in Parliament for 14 days!

A potential super spreader in parliament, now wouldn't that be something to read in the headlines.

Coronavirus or not, maybe we should quarantine the whole lot of them. Not for 14 days, but for 14 years. That way the country might have a chance to get back on its feet.

Incubation period is up to 27 days, so let's make it 27 years just to be sure.

OMG not only do we have aa DPM ignorant of this Viorus and how it spreads, we also have the WHOLE THAI Parliament ( all those with degrees remember ) being utterly stupid and panicking , typical Thai reaction. Zero logical action just knee jerk action.

I don't think anybody inside or outside would even notice.

the masks are only intended for the opposition ????

Most of parliament might be "taking vacation" or otherwise "temporarily indisposed for the foreseeable future" in a couple of weeks time.

That's no way to talk about the health minister.

No one would notice apart from the lack of stories about corruption or, in Anutin's case, stupidity.

Panicdemic!
