Full details have emerged concerning the immigration officer at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport who has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Spokesman for Region 2 immigration Pol Col Cherngron Rimphadee told INN that the officer was male, was on duty at the entry booths and is now being treated in a Bangkok area hospital.

Pol Col Cherngron said that all immigration staff are checked before and after their shifts.

On March 7th at 3pm at the end of his shift the officer concerned complained of feeling feverish and had a temperature of 37.5C.

He was taken to Lat Krabang Hospital and being deemed at risk of contracting coronavirus was then transferred to Klang Hospital.

The officer met the criteria for a PUI (person under investigation) check and it was confirmed on the 9th that he had the virus.

At this time the patient has a fever but it has not spread to the lungs because it was found quickly and treated, said the spokesman.

The officer's roommate was checked and found to be free of the virus.

Fellow staff members were all checked and found to be virus-free though they are all now in 14 day quarantine as a precaution.

Cherngron stressed the IB has adopted stringent procedures in dealing with the virus over the last two months. Pictures on the INN site showed some of those taking place at the airport including the wiping of surfaces and mask wearing.

Well thank cricky for that, for a moment I thought he might spread it to ever Tom, Dick and Harry that passed through immigration where he was checking their passports, because someone told me that once someone has it, it is highly contagious, like 10,000 times that of the flu.........

The Straits Times is saying that a second IMO has tested positive.

The Thai DDC report the other day said one Immigration officer and another airport workers, but I don't believe it elaborated on details of the second person, and didn't describe that person as Immigration.

But here, the AFP report is saying two Immigration:

BANGKOK (AFP) - Two immigration officers at Bangkok's main airport have the coronavirus and may have handled the passports of visitors to Thailand, a health official said on Wednesday (March 11).

The men, both working at Suvarnabhumi airport, fell ill on March 7 and 8 respectively and potentially came into contact with arriving passengers in the days before their diagnosis.

One of the officers was among a team leading health screenings of Thai returnees from South Korea - which has reported the second-most Covid-19 infections in Asia after China.

"They were not working at the same spots,"

Seems an irony that someone is using the word 'spots' when talking about an infectious disease.
