BEIJING (Reuters) - Mainland China saw a doubling in new coronavirus cases, driven by a jump in infected travellers arriving from abroad, while more locally transmitted cases crept into its daily tally, including one in the central city of Wuhan.

China had 78 new cases on Monday, the National Health Commission said, a two-fold increase from a day earlier.

Of the new cases, 74 were imported infections, up from 39 a day earlier.

Wuhan, capital of Hubei province and epicentre of the outbreak in China, reported one new case, the National Health Commission said on Tuesday, following five days of no new infections.

Three other local infections were reported elsewhere in the country.

Watching this with great interest. Hope they are on the road to recovery.

A second pandemic wave would be devastating for them & the rest of the world.

Further suggesting that "herd immunity" is going to be the only long term solution.

we're all going to get it, just got to accept that I think

They found the virus had lasted on a cruise ship for 17 days so it seems inevitable

Without valid treatment/vaccine, suggesting herd immunity is hardly any different than do nothing just pray, everything from medical overwhelming to severe illness/deaths still apply. In theory since elder or sick population are most vulnerable, could isolate all those people then intentionally expose healthy adults/young to virus, possibly better than do nothing at all, though inhumane and not that easy to execute.

Also whether herd-immunity is viable highly dependent on actual R0, which many still debating and may change according how we deal with it.

If there's any hope of researching/mass produce a vaccine then social distacing/isolating are valid to stall time and casualty. Afterall tuberculosis is much much more infective and lethal than this covid-thing yet no one gets scared of it, because we have established procedure and medicine

Actually, it's not more contagious than COVID-19. It's considerably less. But that's precisely because of herd immunity. Of course, it was originally far, far worse. But that's true of all these pandemics, including smallpox.

Actually we never achieved herd immunity for TB but controlling it thanks to its very slow acting, and very very cheap, effective medicine. Tuberculosis and smallpox originally have R0 > 10 and thus no any measure could effectively prevent transmission, we know examples from early TB clinics however well the doctors prepared, eventually most doctor and nurses become infective carrier even ill. For infections with high R0 like these to obtain herd immunity(without effective treatment) requires >90% population be immune to them, it is just as do nothing let virus loose。

Any effective treatment/vaccine would make obtain herd immunity quicker and less painful. COVID according to most sources requires 45%-85% immune population to achieve herd immunity, and it looks like the higher end consider Italy's case. Let's say a very much optimal 40% and 0.1% lethal rate without treatment - that's still 3 million global(exclude remote population) death toll. And it won't take years like tuberculosis to do that.

Not really true, innit?

The country is the reason why all the other countries have gotten the Batwuhan virus, just because these people like to eat bats and still alive monkey brain.

"The country is hit by"is not the right message.

They are the ones who started to spread the virus without telling other countries about it.

Here we go again.
