Transfer visa to new US passport

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just got my kids new passports in and was wondering what the process was to transfer their visas to their new passports? We already have the letter from the US Embassy but I was wondering what the best thing to do would be given my situation.

They are currently on an extension of stay with a non-O dependent visa until April 27, 2020 and we will also be submitting documents for their new extension of stay since it is almost expired. They also need to do their 90-day report on April 11, 2020. My question is do I need to get their current extension transferred to their new passport BEFORE I can submit their documents to extend? Or can I just go straight to the counter to submit their extension documents with their old visas in hand and not having had it transferred to the new passport? Also, with their new passports, am I able to still continue to do online 90-day reporting or do I need to report in person first and then am able to do online again?

Your response would be greatly appreciated as I am hoping to get all of this done in one day and be done as soon as possible so my family can minimize our exposure with this Coronavirus.

Their stamps will have to be transferred to the new passport before immigration processes the extension.application.

The stamp transfer and extension application can be done on the same day.

The extension application can be done up to 30 day early or 45 days at some offices.

Thank you for your quick reply. Can I do their 90-day online reporting with their new passports or do they need to do it in person first?

The online reporting will not work using their new passport numbers. Theri record would not be found in the database the system checks.

You could use their old passport numbers for this report. After that they would have to leave and re-enter the country using their new passports before online reporting will work.

Ok, but could they do a mail in 90-day report, thus avoiding a physical trip to Immigration? And, if's that successful, could subsequent reporting be done online?
