webfact
Bangkok airport: Only 40 flights left down from 800 daily before crisis Pictures: Naew Na Naew Na reported that though Suvarnabhumi airport remains open for business it is a shadow of its former self. The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in there being just 40 international flights a day down from 800 before the crisis. There are just 3,000 people arriving per day compared to 70,000 before. Yesterday a spokesman for Division 2 of the immigration police Pol Col Choengron Rimphadee said that strict cleaning measures were being carried out in passenger areas and offices. Staff in white "PPE" suits alongside masked staff posed behind a banner saying "Big Cleaning Day". Pictures showed immigration officials in masks and face vizors cleaning booths and others with spraying equipment and white suits disinfecting offices. This was all part of what Naew Na said was strict adherence to cleanliness regulations at the airport. Popular Post BigBadGeordie
No confirmation of these numbers from TAT yet? I will await their response as I only trust their information in relation to visitor numbers to Thailand. 1

holy cow cm
Like the PM told all Thai people to do: Expect and to brace for the worst (maybe) to come. We have not yet to see anything yet. Word to the wise. Just be more than careful now. I wish everyone to be safe and healthy.

Stargeezr
People still flying to Bangkok? I hope they are transits or business travellers, as the rest will not have a very good vacation, with most places shut down. I know that except for funerals of my Thai family members, I will not be going to Thailand for 2 to 3 years. Hopefully the government and TAT wiol be smart enough to change the visa rules and quit the 90 day run requirements, but of course that is a dream considerring who the government consists of now. They are called Thai citizens e.g. Thai Airways still evacuating Thais (from Rome e.g.). I hesitated to comment yesterday, but this number of 40(!) flights only is utter nonsense. A quick glance at the flights just until noon showed that there were many more. A more credible/plausible source: 106 departures, 108 arrivals. Number of departing passengers of course much higher than arrivals. Some countries will organize evacuation flights, Switzerland for example from Bangkok and Phuket on Monday. smiggley
Why have the Thai govt not closed all flights into Thailand except to bring Thai nationals home? This is to stop new cases coming in as most other countries have done around the world.
