ndr
Hi, My Passport expires on June 28, 2020 together with my PE Visa (elite). However, my elite membership (5 year) expires in November, 2020, but immigration at the time had to match the expiry of the passport when the stamp was issued. I would like to renew my passport here in Thailand, but my embassy requires me to go back to my country to renew because they require fingerprints for a new e-passport (biometric?). I prefer to stay here in Thailand in my home at this time. I know it's not possible to return if I somehow leave now. What are my options please? Thanks, Nader
dia1
Pretty sure you have to to return to your country. You cannot travel with an expired passport or stay in another country legally without a valid passport. Regardless of your visa type or the end date of its membership, you will need a valid passport. ubonjoe
It seems to bit absurd that you can only get a new passport in your home country. It seems they may have to issue you a temporary passport if you cannot return to there. You should of gotten a new passport almost 6 months ago.
PingRoundTheWorld
Have you actually checked with the embassy? They may be able to issue you a temporary 1-year passport. Depending on your home country it may not even be possible to travel there (and/or back) by June 28.
saakura
I am quite sure that your embassy should be able to issue you a temporary 1yr passport as others have mentioned.
flyingsaucersarereal
It would help to try to answer the question if we know what is your home country.

Yes, agreed, a valid passport is required before anything else. Quote It seems to bit absurd that you can only get a new passport in your home country. I was told that it requires biometric data such as fingerprints. I have the old version without biometric data. All the new passports are biometric. Thanks. Yes, 6 months ago would have been ideal Quote Have you actually checked with the embassy? They may be able to issue you a temporary 1-year passport. Quote I am quite sure that your embassy should be able to issue you a temporary 1yr passport as others have mentioned. They have not mentioned this option to me while I was there. I'll try again. Thanks.

I do not know what country you are from , but I am sure that most embassies or consulates in Thailand dispose of fingerprint scanners . I had a new biometric passport issued in Phuket in 2017 , went to the consulate over there , had my fingerprints scanned ... after a few weeks the new passport arrived , no problems .
